Today I want to talk about ironing.
More importantly, I want to talk about how life's like ironing.
I've ironed my fair share of shirts and skirts and dresses and dress pants. (Yes, I know there is a wrinkle-free setting on the dryer, but it doesn't get all the wrinkles out.) If you've ever ironed anything, you know the following two basic facts:
1. The iron is hot.
2. It's a lot easier to iron a wrinkle in than it is to iron a wrinkle out.
When I accidentally iron a wrinkle in, it's when I'm in a rush or not really paying attention to what I'm doing. Too bad that half-a-second motion when the crease is made takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to undo. Sometimes I just don't have the time to fix my mistake, so I scramble to put on a whole new outfit.
Well, life's like ironing. When I iron a wrinkle into my life, it's when I'm in a rush or not really paying attention to what I'm doing. I get short with a loved one. I indulge a bad habit. I chose myself over others. Too bad that half-a-second action when the crease is made takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to undo. Sometimes I think I just don't have the time to fix my mistake, so I scramble to put on a smile.
But thankfully that wrinkle won't go away until I do something about it.
The wrinkles in my life aren't accidents. I make my own decisions, so there's no one to blame but myself. Thankfully, I believe that we can all iron out our wrinkles. It will take work...a LOT of work, but it's worth it.
Just remember: Decisions can seemingly ruin our lives, but there is always a way to work out the wrinkles.
